About Me

My name is Ryan Aird and I am a third year camper. I have really been enjoying compcamps the past few years. I work on mostly my own projects here and really try to work on developing my skills. I have worked with different systems and devices, often not really with much of a focus. Learning is not a chore for me, I enjoy it. As much as learning is fun though, compcamps is really about coming together with other people who have a passion for the same things that I do. Being in the same room with someone who actually knows what you mean by all the funky words you use is truly something spectacular. That is what keeps me coming back to compcamps.

My Projects in the 3rd Year

Underwear Simulator is a game that I made with fellow camper Brock at Compcamps this year. Brock is a very enthusiastic camper and he was great to work with. The game has little focus, and was originally a sandbox before becoming a third person fighter. This was my first experience working with Unreal 4, although I have had some exerience working with the previous version. Unreal 4 contains a new blueprints technology that was quite new to me. I have been used to working in standard programming languages in the past few years which can often be confusing to beginners. While blueprints may be better for beginners, it can sometimes be quite confusing to those who are used to just typing out their code. Some concepts have been adapted in some strange ways. The whole thing has a tendency to feel a bit alien to you, just as I remember feeling when I first learned to program.
